CONTINUED DEVELOPMENT IN VEJLE

How does the municipality respond?

Even though Vejle does not get a winnerproject, the municipality altogether perceives the competition as fruitful. They see many great ideas in the project proposals for the site and wishes to invite all the participants to discuss and work on ideas for how the area can be developed.

Sonny Berthold, Chairman of the Technical Committee says:
“As part of Vejle’s architectural policy we have ambitions for constant development of new visions and ideas in the area of architecture and urban development. EUROPAN spurred many good ideas on further development of a campus area in the central part of the city. Naturally, we regret that no winners were found in Vejle from among the participants but that does not diminish the tempo of the development; on the contrary, we have chosen to invite all the participants from Vejle to a workshop on further development of the area.”

Moreover, Vejle thinks it has been beneficial to become part of the EUROPAN network among European municipalities:

Camilla Jørgensen, architect in the Development Division of the Technical Authority, Municipality of Vejle:
“It is very exciting, rewarding and educational to participate in a competition such as EUROPAN. In meeting so many colleagues you quickly obtain a large network, and you hit upon a number of ideas about, and gain insight into, what is currently trendsetting for European cities.

- It is amazingly inspiring to be presented with the thoughts and ideas of architects from all over Europe, and very enriching professionally because the level is generally very high. Furthermore, just as the competition is for young architects in private enterprises, it is also an opportunity for young architects in a municipality to create international contacts and networks.”
